Life Updates

1. Copper's bottom tooth broke through yesterday, or Sunday night. I attribute that to her crankiness and inability to self-soothe, play, and sleep. I would love to show you her ornery face and random tantrums, but...
2. Our camera broke. Tried to turn it on last night and it wouldn't. And still won't, despite new batteries, being plugged into the computer, and being sworn at. Today I went online looking for good camera deals. Then decided that a new digital camera wasn't really in the "needs only" budget I put myself on. With this new budget, I have thankfully...
3. Finished Christmas shopping. Except for my dad, and who knows what to get him. He has everything. I may just make a few pounds of cookie dough he can keep in the freezer for instant cookies when he wants them. Why not, since I've been non-stop cooking anyway getting ready for:
4. SFP graduation. Fourteen weeks later and the program I run is finally coming to an end. At least for four weeks until the next one starts. This weekend I made about 120 cups of gelatin popcorn- red, orange, green and blue- for the 11 families and 15 group leaders. I am now sick of my kitchen being a mess- tired of sweeping, washing dishes, and not having counter or table space. It would be super nice to get out of the house, if only...
5. I hadn't gotten in a car wreck on Saturday. Taryn and I stopped at the light and BAM- some guy behind me didn't realize that everyone was stopped. So his car hit mine and I hit the truck in front of me. His ball on the hitch went right through my front license plate and hit the frame, and my back end has all sorts of problems. If that wasn't enough, there hasn't been a rental available for me and I still do not have one. Stuck inside with crying Copper, who, by the way,
6. Is almost 17 pounds and 26 inches long. Friday she had her 6 month check-up. She oo'd and ahh'd the nurses and doctor with her smile and funny giggle. Four shots later, she screamed at them and gave them dirty looks. And had a rough day Saturday as an after effect. Which reminded me to keep:
6. Praying to recognize that these are the good times in my life. I had gotten in the habit of praying for better times, but then I thought: "What if these are the good times b/c something worse is around the corner?" It reminds me that I really do have many blessings. Maybe tomorrow I will write about them.

  1. I missed you today in our meeting that you weren't at. ;)

I can come and get you and you can dirty up my kitchen. I'll just make the kids clean it up.

How do you make gelatin popcorn? And is it good?

  2. Oh my gosh Cassie! I'm sorry you were in a car accident! Hope you are doing ok. Good luck with those shots with Copper. Savanna was a beast on her 4 month shots. It was stupid of us too because we had so much going on the day we got her shots. We had a graduation dinner to go to and a wedding reception and she screamed through most of it making it very unenjoyable.

  3. I just love you :)...and I love reading your posts. You seriously are a great writer!
It always feels good to write about the "bad times" doesn't it. I would know...hehe.
I'm sure glad you two were ok and weren't badly injured in the "car accident." Hopefully we will see you guys again soon! Happy Holidays!

Easter-ish, belt exams, and more

Micah's belt exam was last month.  She advanced to the top of three brown belts and her junior black belt exam will be this fall.  She asked me not to tell or invite anyone except Auree... and Auree is her karate friend. She said, "only karate people there except you guys."  Copper was in NY, so it was just Tim and I and Dakota.  Kota's phone died about one hour into the almost four hours we were there, and what a trooper. Haha. Micah is awesome! While waiting they had to do all sorts of "the grind" exercises.  Here she had to put her feet on her friend (boy Ronan) legs and then do push ups. It looked really hard. Jujitsu fighting with friend (girl) Ronan... Three hours in and she just sat and took a break.  She looked beat. I'm grateful for girl Ronan's friendship with Micah.  They're all such great friends with her. Ronan, Kristine, and Micah Ms. Kassie came back to see everyone who was advanced testing! Micah was thrilled; this is her mentor...

She's Here!

Yea! Copper is here and is so beautiful! She was born on June 8, 2009 after a surprise "You're not leaving the hospital" induction. She was 6.13 pounds and 18.5 inches long. She had the cord around her neck twice, so she was this dark haired, albino skin girl with quivering lips. But so cute! She got some color right away and has stayed pink since! Here's a few pics...
We went to California! Micah has her annual karate in the woods event through ISKA, and this year we decided to take the whole family and go a few days early. It kind of stinks because the girls had 4 days of school and then we took off! I don't regret it though. They are hard workers and they got caught up pretty fast.  We got there really early Wednesday morning after an early flight, and started off the day off with a baseball game with the San Francisco Giants. Micah is now baseball's biggest fan. Especially the Giants, and especially number 51. I can't remember his name but she knows everything including his stats. 🤣 Wednesday we also walked Pier 39 and about exhausted ourselves from a very long day.  Thursday we hit the national monument and visitor center of the Golden Gate bridge and then walked along it until we got a pretty decent view of the ocean. So pretty! After that we spent the whole rest of the afternoon at the San Francisco zoo. I think this was Dakota...
