Kindergarten Highlights

Dakota: "Mom, the weirdest thing happened at school." Me: "Oh yeah?  Like what?" Dakota: "There was this beep from the wall. And a voice from the sky... and the voice wasn't even in the room!" Me: {I thought about telling her it was God, but didn't want to confuse her because she also said the voice was a girl... and I think it would have super confused her at the expense of my humor} Me: "Yeah... that's called the intercom." {explained what it was} Dakota: "What?  I had no idea." Dakota: "Today I played with someone new.  Her name is Briella." Me: "Oh good!" Micah: "Hey, I have a girl named Briella in MY class!" Me: "You guys, you're in the same class...." Micah: "I got left behind at recess today because I stayed out there with the wrong class." Me: "What did you do?" Micah: "Nothing.  I just played and then the teacher said, 'You're...

Don't know what to call this

"The Lord works in mysterious ways..."  Except, not really.  The Lord just works in ways we don't quite understand; they're not mysterious, they're just divine.  They're purposeful, thought out, and for the better of ourselves.  He Always has the greater good in mind- for ourselves as individuals, for our families, for mankind and for the growing of the gospel.  So when I'm having a hard time, let me remember how I've been led along in life.  It's never been my ideas, my gifts or skills- it's all been my God, my Heavenly Father who knows better for me than I'll ever know for myself.  It's not a mystery how I got this life and this overpouring of blessings- it's a real recognition of His hand in my life. One of my favorite clients was a lady who suffered from bipolar disorder (with active psychosis), depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and schizoaffective.  On top of that, she's a psychic medium and a complete riot.  I ...

Life!

Happy Labor Day!  This weekend has me reflecting on how blessed I am. I finally am feeling back to normal- energy levels are up, patience levels are up, love of life is coming back.  Today was indeed a labored day and I LOVED it!  I cleaned and organized the garage, edged and mowed the lawn, cleaned the house, did all of the laundry, played board games with the kids, worked a few hours (I'm behind), and ran a mile on the treadmill. This is a big deal!  This is the kind of busy I used to be (and I loved it)- when the last many months have been spent in overwhelming fatigue.  Thanks to my Heavenly Father for helping me feel better, leading me to good things, and blessing me with all I have.  Thanks to my fantastic mate Tim who goes along with my ideas (like, "let's reorganize everything in the garage on your day off"), helps whenever I ask him, loves our kids like no other, and loves God enough to make Him the center of our lives. The last week at work as a...

School...

School started a few weeks ago for Taryn.  The 7th graders had their own first day (on a Friday) but then got to stay home while the 8th graders went on Monday.  It's a good way for the new ones coming into junior high to get used to the difference.  She had a great first day... "I can't believe I can just roam around the school and buy stuff from the vending machine." Copper's first day of second grade was, "the best day of her life."  The morning was rushed and we didn't have enough time to do a great picture at home, but we snapped one when we got there! Dakota and Micah came home smiling and happy; they came home with completely contradictory stories, despite being in the same class: Me: Did you read a book? K: Nope. M: Yes we did! Me: Did you meet any friends? K: No. M: Yes we played with Grace! Me: What school rules are there? K: We don't have any school rules. M: Yes we do, we can't get a drink if we're on ...

Staycation

Every year we take a staycation and stay a weekend in SLC.  This year we did our staycation at home; partly because we went to Disneyland in February.  Here's what we did... and boy did we keep ourselves busy!! We were supposed to spend the week before school getting back into early bedtimes and normalcy days... oh well!  We were too busy instead... Several Thursdays ago I came home from work early.  I'd about had it with work and sick of planning my life around it.  That night we quickly threw together a "friend late night" as sort of a "goodbye summer; hello, school year."  The girls each got to invite a friend and stayed up late eating pizza, having ice cream cones, watching movies, and running around the backyard. Copper invited Aria and the twins invited Emery and Maycee.  Everyone came in their pajamas and HAD A BLAST.  Taryn got a late night too... this time at her friend Sam's house.   *By late night... I mean the party ended at ...
