A personal bit on corona

My opinion on the corona virus isn't a popular one.  To be brief: Open the country back up. Let people choose: like don't arrest the guy in IDAHO (of all places!) for having a garage sale to earn money for his family. Let people work. The government shouldn't decide everything. Don't make me do anything I don't have a choice in. Nobody said the coronavirus wouldn't kill people. Nobody should be surprised. There are worse things in life than dying.  2-3% of the population dying vs. economic destruction across the globe...  A little taste of what losing freedom will be like.  I kinda believe the United States, some day, will hang on the brink of a lost freedom before Christ comes.  Here's a tiny, tiny taste of it.  I already don't like it. Much more loss, grief, anxiety, suicide, depression, child abuse, stress, and lost livelihoods will occur from the result of a nation shutting down than ever from COVID-19. That being said: I respect pe...

COVID-19

I found this online... seemed fitting, and funny. Coronavirus guidelines (maybe rules). You may be prosecuted for breaking these rules depending on the county and state in which you live. However, always remember that the federal government is in charge. 1. You cannot & should not leave the house for any reason, but if you have to, then you can. You are free to stay home, you are not free to leave home. So STAY HOME. But it’s important to go out sometimes. 2. Masks are not useful if you are sick, but maybe you should wear one, it can save you, but it is mandatory as well. You will definitely not get sick with a mask, but you may still die. When you do go out, which you shouldn’t, keep a social distance of 6 to 100 feet. You must be 6 feet behind the next person in a line, however, you can be right next to the person in the line right next to your line. The virus does not travel side to side. 3. Stores are closed, except those that are open. Essential employees must work,...

Life the past few weeks

Cameron got a bunny and the kids fell in love.  Especially Dakota, who has begged for one.  She's by far the animal lover in the family and hasn't stopped talking about it.  We made a deal that if she earned $50 (the price of half the small hutch we found), we'd get her one.  The girl hasn't stopped working.  She has worked her tail end off, asking us every day about any extra chores she can do or who she can go work for.  She has $20+ so far... I took Friday off because this week has about killed me.  It was so nice to spend a few days working in the yard, enjoying the sunshine, and watching spring bring things to life. Look at my cute new tree! Getting out the half-tent was the best idea I've had in awhile. The girls made a new game: Corona Tag.  Ha! The other night we had BLT's and it reminded me of how much I love spring/summer meals and grilling.  Copper made the rolls, which is why we have 50... Tim's been chain-sawing the...

Easter

Kota woke us up this morning at 5 a.m. like it was Christmas.  Jeez.  Haha... After Easter baskets were found and treats enjoyed, Copper presented the Easter lesson she asked last night if she could prepare.  She did so amazing!  She looked up some information on  this website  about the last week of Christ's life and typed eight paragraphs of information, which she then put in plastic Easter eggs (along with candy) and hid all over the house.  She is incredible!  She had it broken down by each day of Christ's last week, including His resurrection, and had a question at the end of each one that we could discuss.  I am so proud of her; she did this all on her own while I was in the other room painting.  Sure love this kiddo! We try to center our home on Christ, His teachings, and His example.  I hope that when others enter our home, they feel peace.  That is Christ!  I mean, it's not always peaceful and we have our...

Doing Well Over Here

Micah made a hammock. . She also made some hooks to hang her stuff up...  ...and a backpack made out of a Frosted Flakes box she pulled out of the trash... Micah is the queen of stuff like this. Copper's blue lipstick, brought to you by our annual buy of Robin Eggs... Dakota's been into hair chalk lately- a LOT of it... This week they thought it was warm enough to jump on the tramp with the sprinklers on... crazies... For an entire afternoon, Copper walked around with my extra headset for work, narrating our lives:  "The Helferich family is going outside.  The Helferich family is eating lunch. The Helferich family got mail today. The Helferich family has a dog named Red."   Kota sure loves the animals in her life.  She is a through and through animal lover and we love that about her! We stopped by Ty and Amber's to pick up some Easter stuff- because when your SIL works at Walgreens and can get mega discou...

This week

Three weeks of home school down. Three weeks of working from home down. Three weeks of being together, playing lots of games, staying up late, trying new things, baking a lot, going on walks, finishing projects, and mostly avoiding the news. I'm trying hard to focus on the positive.  There are a lot of wonderful results that will come out of this pandemic and I choose to focus on those.  I am not naive to the situation nor narrow minded about the ill effects, and yes I feel compassionately sad about lost jobs and such- BUT I do choose to not worry and not join in on the mass of fear around me.  I don't want it bleeding onto my kids especially.  So, I choose to see the silver lining and make the best of every day! We try to do the above every day.  Sometimes the girls don't change into clean clothes.  Like Micah (below), who hasn't showered or done her hair since Wednesday.  I figured there are worse things in life than this... plus, we ty...
