Weeds

These are the weeds in our yard. They are no ordinary weeds; they are beasts. They multiply and replenish, mistaking the divine command as if it pertains to plant life. They are a wicked and sore sight for our yard; unlike our neighbors, whose yards are weed free due to constant and diligent efforts. The guy who lives behind us is meticulous about his yard. I think he is striving to win "yard of the week." I also think he is embarassed about living next to our jungle. But not enough to pull our weeds for us. I used to care but I don't anymore and have started wondering how long it will take for our entire neighborhood to initiate a "Help the Helferich's Yard" work day.

Feasting

Today was Copper's first day in church. Here is the second dress she wore. She emptied her bladder all over the first one. We still think she's cute. We only went for the first hour but it took us more than two to get ready. That's probably the reason babies scream during sacrament. I always wondered what could be so terrible about a Sunday morning- now I know. Anyway, Copper was fearless in doing what many others wish they could do during sacrament. She slept through the whole thing. If only we could all curl up in fetal position during church talks. Although, occassionally she threw both arms in the air as if praising the heavens in some sort of non-mormon way. She continued feasting upon the words when we got home, as seen here.

What I did NOT do this past week

1. I did NOT eat almost a whole box of cereal on my own, nor did I have one too many brownies, as an attempt to make up for the months I had diabetes. 2. I did NOT let Copper go diaperless on the couch, for less than one minute, and she did not empty her insides all over it. 3. I did NOT wake up every fifteen minutes on a good night's sleep questioning her continued existence... "Tim, are you sure she's breathing?" 4. I did NOT chuckle a little bit upon hearing of my client's rage with a knife. Boy do I sure miss work while I'm on leave. 5. I did NOT wish for a shotgun to quiet the bird who so lovingly sings to us each morning at 4:30. 6. I did NOT dream about having another baby and did NOT almost wish to die upon remembering the dream. 7. I did NOT carry ill feelings towards the lady down the street who jogs past our home with all her kids in tow, all ready for the day, and happy, before nine o'clock in the morning. 8. I did NOT pray for Tim to gr...

Copper whopper

Cassie: "I feel this overwhelming responsibility." Tim: "I don't get caught up in all that. I just love her." He is so cute with his little "Copper whopper."

The nights...

Oh how the nights are... 1. First night. In hospital. Lots of racket. Can't sleep. It's not the noise. Adrenaline, or something, has taken over mind and body. 2. Second night. In hospital. More noise. Did that nurse really just wake me up to tell me she made Copper a cute nametag? Baby won't eat. Do I know how to feed her? Does she know how to eat? 3. Third night. At home! Very tired. Baby not tired. She slept all day. Barely waking up even to eat until the middle of the night. Not much to offer her quivering, really-ticked-off lips. Felt like a terrible mom. Nursing = Hard. 4. Fourth night. The best rest! Copper ate very well! Slept almost five hours straight! I'm thinking "This is all right! What a perfect day and night. Tomorrow will be even better." 5. Fifth night. Did I really think it would last? I hear it gets better. And, it is great. Don't get me wrong though... The nights are hard. Look at this face though! She's perfect!

She's Here!

Yea! Copper is here and is so beautiful! She was born on June 8, 2009 after a surprise "You're not leaving the hospital" induction. She was 6.13 pounds and 18.5 inches long. She had the cord around her neck twice, so she was this dark haired, albino skin girl with quivering lips. But so cute! She got some color right away and has stayed pink since! Here's a few pics...

My day on bed rest

Being ordered in bed. Sounds fun and relaxing. Far from it. In fact- I'm thinking about committing myself to the State Hospital Or the zoo Or someplace where I'm observed for unnatural human behavior. This is what I did today: Went to the doctor Went to work for a while Came home with huge swollen feet And a pounding headache Took a nap Played solitaire Looked at the mess in the kitchen Walked past the mess Looked at the belly hair I've gotten since pregnancy Tried to pluck it Started to whimper-like a puppy- That hurts! Inspected all my split ends Tried to paint my toe nails Wondered who I could sucker into cleaning my carpets Made a list of things to do tomorrow Which is the same as today... And- it's only 3:30. With such a busy day I've had I'm surprised I still feel lazy.
