Why 7 is better than 6

Copper turns 7 months tomorrow. Yikes time flies! Seven great things about her are:

1. She invented her own way of getting around. It goes something like this if you want to try it at home: lay on back, chin to the ceiling, arch back, raise up the knees, and push. Repeat several times. When you hit a corner or wall, or the kitchen tile, pull head down, roll over several times, and begin at step one again. Yes, it would be easier to crawl. Maybe she doesn't want to be like everyone else, maybe we create originals, or maybe she just doesn't get it.

2. She also invented her own language. She has lasting conversations with herself. I think she learned it from me. No I don't (too often) talk to myself, but in the car I sing to her if she starts getting fussy (good advice from my sunny friend). Her favorite songs are: Popcorn popping on the apricot tree, you are my sunshine, and E.J.'s Benny & the Jets. Just kidding. But anyway- she has started parroting the rhythms of voice and I swear that somehow she knows the humming from Little Mermaid.

3. She only truly giggles out loud at two different times. One, when in a shopping cart and Tim pushes her really fast (note: not when I push her really fast- when I try she just stares at me). Two, when we hold onto her and bounce her on the back of the recliner so it rocks. All these fancy toys and jumpers and a recliner is all it takes.

4. She knows the sound of running water and her getting naked means a bath. She breaks into a two-tooth smile and starts shaking. Usually we have to half-close the shower curtain on her unless we want to clean up gallons of water from the floor. A full, two leg, forceful slam creates quite the splash. And smile.

5. She pulls herself to a sitting position. Several times now we've gone in her room to hear her babbling to herself. Sure enough, the blanket's off and she's sitting straight up. And smiling like she's especially proud of herself. The fact that she only does it during naps and bedtime makes me wonder if her getting up on her own when we're all asleep will be a regular trick when she's a toddler.

6. She reaches for us. She's been doing this for a little while. While it was very endearing at first, it sort of loses its "Awww"ness when she won't sit and play alone without reaching up and whimpering like little lost Benji. We did make a decision to hold her when she's asking for it and don't believe it spoils her. A child who knows her needs will be met is a well adjusted kid, to say the least. She is getting heavier, though, and I soon may know what a broken arm feels like.

7. She's aware. There are some things in life this kid just knows. One, she knows home, for sure. Cranky as she may be when we're out and about, even with family, she gets home, sprawls out on the ground, looks around and smiles at familiarity. And sometimes she sighs. Also, she knows a few things about home. Like if she leans really far to the side while I'm holding her on the bed, she can see herself in the mirror. Babies+mirrors= funny times. And when I pick her up from her too-awesome-of-a-sitter, she squeals, grins, and throws her hands everywhere. And does the same when she's seen Tim. It's very cute. And, finally, she is quite aware that if she throws her head back, the whole world looks different from upside down. Sometimes when she's on our lap we have to force her head back up so she can take a break from the blood rush. The more she learns about this world, the more excited she gets. And, the more we love her!

Happy SEVEN months!!

Easter-ish, belt exams, and more

Micah's belt exam was last month.  She advanced to the top of three brown belts and her junior black belt exam will be this fall.  She asked me not to tell or invite anyone except Auree... and Auree is her karate friend. She said, "only karate people there except you guys."  Copper was in NY, so it was just Tim and I and Dakota.  Kota's phone died about one hour into the almost four hours we were there, and what a trooper. Haha. Micah is awesome! While waiting they had to do all sorts of "the grind" exercises.  Here she had to put her feet on her friend (boy Ronan) legs and then do push ups. It looked really hard. Jujitsu fighting with friend (girl) Ronan... Three hours in and she just sat and took a break.  She looked beat. I'm grateful for girl Ronan's friendship with Micah.  They're all such great friends with her. Ronan, Kristine, and Micah Ms. Kassie came back to see everyone who was advanced testing! Micah was thrilled; this is her mentor...

She's Here!

Yea! Copper is here and is so beautiful! She was born on June 8, 2009 after a surprise "You're not leaving the hospital" induction. She was 6.13 pounds and 18.5 inches long. She had the cord around her neck twice, so she was this dark haired, albino skin girl with quivering lips. But so cute! She got some color right away and has stayed pink since! Here's a few pics...
We went to California! Micah has her annual karate in the woods event through ISKA, and this year we decided to take the whole family and go a few days early. It kind of stinks because the girls had 4 days of school and then we took off! I don't regret it though. They are hard workers and they got caught up pretty fast.  We got there really early Wednesday morning after an early flight, and started off the day off with a baseball game with the San Francisco Giants. Micah is now baseball's biggest fan. Especially the Giants, and especially number 51. I can't remember his name but she knows everything including his stats. 🤣 Wednesday we also walked Pier 39 and about exhausted ourselves from a very long day.  Thursday we hit the national monument and visitor center of the Golden Gate bridge and then walked along it until we got a pretty decent view of the ocean. So pretty! After that we spent the whole rest of the afternoon at the San Francisco zoo. I think this was Dakota...
