Sometimes, the State of Utah drives me crazy. A bit absurd in a number of ways. I won't go into the things that really get under my skin, but here's a taste.
A year ago I finished my hours for my license. Just a few weeks ago, I finally decided to send in my application, along with the $120 fee, because apparently it takes quite the effort to type all the information into a computer. Nevertheless, my license came in the mail yesterday...and expires in four months.
After much clarification with DOPL (licenses are supposed to be good for two years), I realize that ALL social work licenses expire in September of even numbered years, no matter when they are received and approved. And yes, I will have to pay another $100 and have a certain number of CEU's done by then. That's their prorated agreement.
This is what I hate about the State of Utah and some of their dumb policies. A bit crazy and backwards.
However, I have to also love the State of Utah because I work for them. I get incredible blessings from my job.
What I love?
I love that if there's something important going on in my life, I never miss it because of work. I have supervisors and administration who support family life 100%, and even welcome Copper to our staff meetings if there's a bind. Not only welcome her, but enjoy her distractive , active, and destructive nature. And, I get to work with incredible people. My co-workers are so awesome, supportive, and make me laugh every day. The others I get to associate with from our partnering agencies have become some of my closest friends and teachers. My clients, in all their crazed, mixed up lives, also teach me what it means to serve wholeheartedly and find goodness in a world of crap.
So I guess I'll take the love part of my relationship with my government. And maybe somebody else who is earning their hours will learn and take note of when their application should be sent in...
I just got my pharmacy tech license this year and have the same issue!! So annoying!!!
ReplyDeleteNote to self: Wait until after September to send all that crap and money in. (Although I already have my CEU's) I just think I'll save $100.
ReplyDeleteYo Kayelyn, just so you're aware, past CEU credits won't count. Tried that too...
ReplyDeleteIt is about the same with teaching licenses too, except now they want you to pay an additional 69 to have your fingerprints cleared with each renewal and 20 to have them taken, and then of course the 100 to have them type your certificate too--oh well, I agree there are great benefits to state employment. The people are for sure one of them.
