About a month ago Amber asked me to take a drive to Heber with her to get a permit for a Christmas tree. So we went to the Silver Eagle gas station.
Side note about the Silver Eagle: once like five or six years ago we went camping and I forgot a jacket and sweatshirt so I stopped at the Silver Eagle and paid something like $45 for one. I did not see the Walmart half a mile behind us- they would likely have had one for maybe $15. But I wear my Silver Eagle sweatshirt all the time and it's held up.
So I wore my Silver Eagle sweatshirt in hopes they had not one but two permits left. They had none but the cashier there told us to head to Kamas in the morning because they'd have more. So we drove straight to Kamas in hopes they would let us pre-purchase them and just pick them up later. Kamas is a ways away but Amber chatted and I tried to stay awake because my bedtime is 8:30. The cashier at the Chevron said he wasn't supposed to pre-sell them and then went on an on about the struggles of being a millennial; then he just let us buy the permits and take them anyway. A fun trip and only $15 for a permit. Score!
So we went with Amber and Family today up near Strawberry to find us the perfect Christmas tree to cut down and bring home. We would never have made it without Tim's truck- the road we turned off on had about 18-24" of snow. IT WAS SO FUN!
We dredged through the snow, watched the dogs absolutely delight in each other and the white flakes, and snap pictures of the girls having the best day. The girls, and the dogs, sat in the bed of a truck for the first time and we hiked a pretty steep slope to find what seemed like the perfect tree. It didn't look that tall up next to the huge ones, but we had to cut a little more than two feet off of it. It's a bit "Charlie Brown"ish but I think it's perfect because of the memories tied to it.
I think we've found a new tradition!
And below is the hat I crocheted myself on the drive up there- I was pretty excited!
