So long, willow tree that was annoyingly leaving leaves and branches in my yard...

Tim took Saturday off (finally, a Saturday home in the last six weeks!) in order to tackle the tree that fell over in our yard.  Mostly he's been hoping to use a chainsaw.  Our neighbor, who also came to help, loves chainsaws; his wife was thankful he got a chance to use it to destroy something (I guess it puts him in a happier mood).  Haha. Tim had just begun cutting it all up when a guy with a trailer came by.  Apparently he's our neighbor around the corner (that we've obviously never met!) and said he'd be happy to take our branches and logs to the dump.  In minutes, our home teacher and his boys came to help load.  Our yard was clean within no time.  They headed over to our neighbor's- the much bigger disaster.  Soon enough, more people showed up with chainsaws, rakes, and trimmers.  Before 2 p.m., everything was chopped, cleaned, and off their lawn. People's willingness to serve and sacrifice their time is amazing to me. Someone el...

The Day the Wind Blew

North Lehi (okay, all of Lehi) is windy.  Last year our trampoline blew over two fences.  This year we made sure to strap it down.  As a side note, I told our co-worker that Tim needed to secure a tramp because of the storm coming.  Haha.  Didn't mean it like it sounded! What we didn't think to secure was our neighbor's tree. The flip side is... Tim is hoping to use his chain saw.  He's a bit giddy about it.  Guess we'll see what insurance does first!  Thankfully it didn't fall towards our houses- or on any kids.  At least I'll not have to rake up leaves/twigs anymore from a tree that's not ours! And the next day was a blizzard. Thank goodness they canceled the Kindergarten field trip to the zoo.    In two days it's supposed to be 70 degrees!  I mowed my lawn in February this year; April I'll be shoveling snow.  Crazy Utah Spring weather!

Easter

Life is fantastic. I'm trying hard, consciously, to acknowledge the blessings in my life, the path I've been guided on, and the hand of God in everything.  And I'm trying hard to strengthen my relationship with Christ.  I pray to God, pray to Him for everything, confide and give thanks and ask for help.  But it's the saving Atonement of Christ that I am most appreciate of.  To the point I have no words.  #heisthegift  So I've made it a goal to study Jesus Christ.  Easter is a good time to start. This Easter I wanted my girls to know more than coloring eggs and the magic bunny that somehow sneaks in our home to leave crap.  I got 12 plastic eggs and filled each one of them with a symbol about the last week of Christ's life.  The last one was empty (empty tomb... get it?).  We had a good discussion and it's something I want to do every year.  #thakspinterest We had more fun with lots of family time.  Two Easter egg hunts, lot...

The week I hit Micah in the face with a toaster

Everyday life is busy, busy, busy!  In the bustle of feeding everyone and cleaning up, I swung the toaster around only to find my sweet Micah's face right in the pantry.  First bloody nose?  Check.  Tears?  Check.  Getting shocked (twice) later that afternoon (by grandma's anti-dog floor rug)?  Check.  Getting a toe stuck in a doll crib?  Check.  Rough afternoon for my Micah.  Needless to say, she got extra cuddles that night and stayed in my bed the whole time (instead of 70% of the time). Here's the 'what else' in our lives: We've had beautiful weather the last few weeks (until the last two days).  Traded the baby swing for a swinging bar, much to Copper's delight.  "I'm growing up!" she reminded me...  My Dakota learned to write her name.  The /K/ is a hard one but she's figuring it out. And proud! Once Copper told me she wanted to marry Micah because she knew Micah could always make her...

Conversations with Copper

Sometimes the only word I can think of to describe Copper is amazing.  She's a loving, friendly, playful, and easy going kiddo.  And sort of in a big hurry to grow up.  The last few weeks she's asked me: How old do I have to be to have a phone? How old do I have to be to drive? How old do I have to be to go on a date? (How does she know about dating?) And a classic... "So when I'm sixteen, Boston will be seventeen..."  I reminded her she can't date until she's 16, and then it can only be with a group of people.  I can't believe I'm having this conversation with her at age five... and I ask, "What do people do on dates?"  Thankfully she said, "I have no idea."  Haha.  Such a cutie. She's a smartie pants reader and writer.  She's begged for a white board, which I finally got her.  The first day she had it she made herself and a friend do math problems before they could go outside and play.  Since then she...

Conversations with kids

Copper: Someone threw my clothes all over my room... Me: Hey girls (Kota and Micah), did you throw clothes all over? Kota: Well, everyone did. Me: Everyone? Kota: Well, a ghost did. Copper:  Ghosts are not real! Kota: Micah did it. Me: Dakota, you're losing. Did you throw clothes? A little bit? Kota: Well I did a little bit. Me: All of it? By yourself? Kota: Yes. Micah: "I've got my eye on you. Cassie."

La Vida Loca

I've taken the last week off work, save Wednesday.  It was a much needed break and extremely nice to be home with no set plans but to spend time with the girlies.  Last weekend Tim and I went on a date (alone!) and these chicas went to Oma and Opa's.  They checked out the Lego show at the mall, made racers, and came home happy-happy.   I also had a chance to do yard work. Yay for spring weather.  This little beast in front of my house is always an eyesore to me.  I finally raked all of the leaves from fall-windy season and dug up all of the buried rocks.  So far the rocks are in piles.  Not sure what to do with them yet.  The biggest challenge- getting rid of the 'beautiful' morning glory.  Curse that weed and its ability to procreate.  I dug up as many of the vines and cut away.  I'm tempted to get a strong weed killer and burn off every living thing in there, minus the trees.  This may be my li...
