Cleaning our homes and bodies

This week I've been studying when Christ when into the temple in Jerusalem and drove all the cattle out and overturned the tables of merchants, telling them that a temple isn't a house of merchandise- it's a house of God.  I started thinking of things related to my home and body (my own little temples of holiness) that make it so that I can't feel the spirit of God.  I know that when I don't rise early to exercise and read the scriptures and write in my journal, my day just doesn't go well. I feel tired, lazy, and spend too much time on things that don't matter.  Too much time on my phone is awful for me- I recognize and feel it.   Too much sugar is another thing that leaves my body feeling low on energy and unmotivated.  Anger and frustration (toward one of my certain angels) has really gotten the better of me the last few weeks and I feel the difference in the atmosphere of my home.  Those things are never the answer. This morning I had our family ...

Micah's Mouth

In the last two months, Micah has lost all of her front teeth.  The last front top one fell out yesterday.  She officially cannot bite anything.

Birthday Boy, Saturday Crafts, and Little Old Ladies

This guy turned 37 a few days ago and we sure love him! Before I got married I had a legit written down list of things I thought I needed in a husband.  They included things like having a truck, facial hair, a college degree, knowing how to do things around the house, liking to cook or dance, and all the the things like kindness and compassion.  Then I realized that most of those things, if not all, didn't really matter at all.  Especially the vain things, haha.  What I scored was close-to-God, loyal, hardworking, good sense of humor, and loving Tim.  We're super blessed to have him as the head of our family! The night of his birthday we made signs and banners and peanut butter bars. The girls and Taryn had decorated the house after school.  Then we waited hours and hours- he ended up having to work extra late.  It bummed all of us out but it's okay because it means we can drag out the celebration into the weekend.  We showered him wi...

Snow Day, Bread, and Life

It started snowing last night and it hasn't stopped yet.  My work had a "delayed start time", which I promptly interpreted as a "stay home and use sick leave" day.  I took the little girls to school, much to their dismay (since it seems like all the other districts closed today), but then I checked Taryn out a few hours later and taught her how to bake bread by weight and not volume.  I don't think she particularly cared, but she was a good sport and needed a day of not doing anything.  I baked five loaves of bread today.  That is a lot of bread and one family can only eat so much.  So we kept one, three went to teachers/student teachers at parent-teacher conference tonight, and one is going to somewhere else I haven't decided yet.  If it hasn't stopped snowing by tomorrow, I may bake more. ^^ Look at those beauties... that's some good looking bread!  The ones one the left are filled with honey, cream cheese, and walnuts.  The middle o...

Funny Kids

We’ve laughed a bit lately... The other day Dakota was looking up the school lunch menu and she exclaimed, “Sperm nachos! Sperm nachos! Sperm nachos!” I grabbed the phone and told her to stop saying that, and quickly corrected her that it said SUPREME nachos. That’s the conversation that led to Amber’s remark about Betos, in the last post. I can’t stop laughing about it. We were at the orthodontist and the receptionist asked how far apart the two younger kids were. When I said that they were twins, Micah piped up and said “No we are not, I’m not a twin.” I looked at her and said, “Why would you say that?”    She looked back at me and said, “Why would YOU say that when we’re not twins?”  I repeated it again that indeed they were but Micah just looked at me at me like I was stupid, so I’m sure I looked like a fool. Gosh.  We were playing a family game the other night and one of the questions that Micah was asked was, “If you were arrested, who would be the first ...

Friday at the Office

It's 10:20 a.m. and I'm sitting in my office.  There are people here and it's busy, which is super odd for a Friday because usually everyone has their hours by now and Friday halls are typically dark and lonely.  Today's busyness, along with my own grudging attitude, means I'm likely to not get a lot done here.  Obviously, as I'm writing in this blog and haven't done anything but recreated my to-do list because my old one was ugly.  Today I've also eaten a donut with Kota and Micah at school for today's Parent & Pastry reading time.  We mostly talked and ate because they weren't in the mood to read.  I've also texted my favorite in-law Amber and had the following conversation:  I almost peed in my work chair when I read her reply about Beto's. So now I'm delaying any kind of "getting work done."  It's been the same motivation (lack of) I've had at home with housework and at church with callings, and wit...

Notes from Micah

Micah is our note-writer.  Please do not disturb.  Or else you will get bit by kiwi (imaginary dog) and you will get run over by my stunt car. Do not disturb.  I'm shy and small.  And I'm emotional. Love Micah  (She woke up upset because she couldn't/wouldn't/didn't stay in her bed all night, saying, "I'll never get the hang of this."  Then she barricaded herself in her room and left this note on the door.) I told Micah I would make her a weighted blanket over Christmas break.  She reminded me this week I hadn't... Found two pictures of Christ she wrote about.  "When our Savior was sleeping on a boat with people there was a storm so the people woke him up and he calmed the sea and the storm.  When we are lonely we pray.  By Micah. Jesus.  With God nothing shall be impossible.  Christ.  Dear mom, I love you.  You are the best mom ever.  I know that your favorite color is orange...
